Sharing Indigenous Dance at Stonehaven Summer Camp

We had the best time bringing Indigenous dance to over 150 campers, ages 3 to 16, at Stonehaven Community Church. From the moment we arrived, Camp Director Gwen, her husband Pastor Kaleb, and their son Cory made us feel right at home.

The kids were so ready to jump in. Their curiosity and energy made teaching feel effortless—before long, the room was alive with laughter, stomping feet, and new moves. Seeing little ones trying their first steps next to teenagers showing off their own flair reminded us how dance connects people across every age and background.

One thing that blew us away was the backdrop the campers had been working on: a hand-painted log cabin, canoe, well, and river. It wasn’t just decoration—it felt like the perfect setting for celebrating culture, creativity, and community.

To wrap up the day, we passed around homemade bannock. Watching the campers’ faces light up as they anticipated tasting a piece—some for the very first time—was the perfect closing note. It wasn’t just about food; it was about sharing a small but meaningful piece of who we are.

If you believe in moments like these, consider donating or volunteering with us—your support keeps cultural workshops like this alive for even more youth.
