Honouring Métis Elder Reta Gordon

Honouring Métis Elder Reta Gordon

We had the special honour of performing for a Metis Elder Reta Gordon. The gathering was filled with warmth, laughter, and community. Friends and family joined in, including Elders Marie-Louise Perron and Parm Burgie, who helped make the afternoon even more meaningful.

Elder Reta had personally asked us to dance for her, and we were so touched by that request. Altogether, there were 10 dances—a wonderful mix of energy, colour, and pride. Akina Ohlman shared two beautiful First Nations Fancy Shawl dances, and The Lyons Sisters performed eight jigging numbers, including two dances with Junior Jiggers—Amelia, Matthew, and Peter Herby.

It was a joy to see the generations come together through movement and music. We’re so grateful to Elder Reta for inviting us to share this celebration and are looking forward to performing for her again during the upcoming holiday season.
