Tansi! While visiting Winnipeg, Manitoba, we took a hands-on loom weaving workshop with Cassandra Woolever of Metis Branded.
Cassandra is a Métis business owner and mother who creates beautiful traditional Métis apparel and teaches youth and adults about Métis culture through the Sash Loom Project.
During our workshop, we learned how to use a loom and weave colourful wool yarn into a sash. We enjoyed learning how the threads come together to create patterns and designs, and how much patience and care goes into the weaving process. It was neat to see how a simple loom can make something intricate and expressive.
We are thankful to Cassandra for passing along her knowledge and teachings to us. Learning from Métis makers and knowledge keepers helps us understand our culture more deeply and gives us skills that we hope to share with the next generation.
