It was time to get back to the land.
Berry picking holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for many Indigenous Peoples, as it has sustained our communities for generations.
Historically, berry picking was not only a vital source of food but also an opportunity to connect with the land, learn more about it, and strengthen our community bonds.
These land-based activities are essential for preserving traditional practices, passing down inter-generational knowledge, and fostering a relationship with nature that respects and protects our environment.
Through berry picking, we continue to honour our ancestors and sustain cultural identity.
But our respect for life includes animals, too, and we couldn’t resist a side-quest to touch and feed some! Except the Black and Yellow Garden Spider (Argiope aurantia) pictured above.
