Covers of Love Christmas 2023

For a second Christmas, Kisac partnered with Covers of Love to bring handmade dolls and blankets to Indigenous children. This year, we were also able to gift Elders, too!

Covers of Love (CoL) is a project that uses donated materials and volunteer labour to sew blankets, hats, toys, and other items for children and babies in need – in Canada and around the world. Romania was the first foreign recipient of these beautiful gifts, but for the last 2 years we have worked with CoL to get these gifts to children (and now Elders) around Turtle Island.

Left to Right: Norma Cook (by video: Elder, Misipawistik Cree Nation), Zara Lyons (Y4Y Kisac), Buryl Keene (Covers of Love), Bess Lemmon (Covers of Love), Sarina Lyons (Y4Y Kisac).

This year we sent 400 dolls, 200 child blankets, and 25 Elder lap blankets to children and Elders in need in Cranberry Portage, Flin Flon, The Pas, Opaswayak, and other remote northern communities. Over $1200 in postage helped to make the season bright.

Your donations to Y4Y support partnerships like this, in addition to our own Kisac and Talk Overdose initiatives.
